Planners reveal five outstanding applications
FIVE planning applications have been under consideration for more than a year, the Planning Service has confirmed.
The service aims to decide 80% of applications within eight weeks and 90% within 13 weeks.
But five applications have fallen well outside these targets.
The longest outstanding application dates back to May 2016 and relates to a barn on Route Militaire. The owners had applied to extend the domestic curtilage and increase the width of vehicular access to the property.
A Planning Services spokesman said the applicant’s intentions and the planning policy had changed over time and they hoped a decision would be reached shortly.
M H Construction Ltd’s plans for Route Isabelle have also spent a long time before the planners.
The proposal to demolish the existing buildings at the northwestern end of the road and erect 10 new homes have been with the planners since August 2016.
A decision on the project has been put on hold while a draft development framework was drawn up and put out for consultation. That consultation ends today.
The spokesman said that the application might require revision and further public consultation after the final framework is published.
Iceland applied in November 2016 to retrospectively be allowed to install air conditioning units on the south elevation of its building in Vale Avenue. The spokesman said the decision was delayed due to ongoing discussions with the applicant in order to seek positive outcome, while taking into consideration potential noise issues.
Castle Carey’s owners applied in February 2017 to install a lift in the protected building.
‘The application has been deferred twice for further information from the applicant to assess the impacts on the fabric of the protected building, design of the lift and other concerns,’ the planning spokesman said.
‘The application is likely to be determined shortly.’
Plans to convert the former Carpet Selection Centre on St George’s Place from storage and distribution to offices, as well as alterations to the premises and car parking area, have also been with the planners for more than a year. The spokesman said ongoing discussions were taking place with the applicant in order to seek a positive outcome.
