By 8am on Saturday the queue outside Vinyl Vaughan’s on Fountain Street stretched up the road and round the corner, with nearly 50 people waiting to get in.

First in the queue was Mick Harris, 52, who started queuing at 4.10am.

‘I am used to getting up early as I have twins,’ he said.

‘I collect vinyl as a hobby. I just like to have U2 records.’

A mystery limited edition record was given to Mr Harris as he was the first in the queue. And it was then revealed the record was a U2 album.

‘This makes it absolutely worth it,’ he said.

Simon Lorimer, 33, stayed up all night and arrived to start queuing at 4.15am and admitted he was a bit disappointed to see he was not first in line.

‘But it’s been good waiting,’ he said.

‘We’ve been playing music.’

Further back in the queue was Tim Park, 43, who started queuing at 7.30am.

‘I’m here because today is all about vinyl,’ he said.

‘I’m a big music fan and today I will be looking for some Bruce Springsteen. I’ve been a fan for years.’

He said it was really important to have a store like Vinyl Vaughan’s in Guernsey.

One of the youngest people in the queue was Maisie Woodgate, 20.

‘I’m a big fan of records,’ she said.

‘Today I will be looking for records by Tears for Fears and the Cure.’
