The charts, which are judged on weekend sales across the country, recorded £968,681 of sales at 544 sites over Friday-Sunday, an increase of 22% on its debut weekend sales.
It is now in second place behind the new Marvel film, Avengers: Infinity War, which secured a record-breaking £23.1m. in sales across the weekend, the most ever for a superhero film.
To date, the Guernsey film has made a gross total of £3m. nationwide and is still just as popular at the Mallard as it was during the opening week.
‘The second week has been every bit as popular as the first with all 4pm and 6.45pm showings selling out completely,’ said Mallard general manager Daniel Phillips.
‘The film is currently due to play until at least 24 May. However, if it keeps up this momentum, it will most likely stay longer.
‘We are also exploring the option of keeping on at least a showing a day for the summer, so that holiday-makers will be able to see the film while in the island. This will, however, depend on what new titles come our way over the next few weeks.
‘Generally speaking, the reception has been very good with people loving the story and the film and, indeed, even coming more than once.
‘Of course, people are commenting on the fact that it wasn’t filmed here, and to islanders the scenery shots are very clearly not Guernsey, but we feel the overall consensus is that it pays justice to the book, shows Guernsey in an excellent light and will hopefully bring an abundance of tourists our way,’ he added.
Over the weekend another film set in the Channel Islands, Beast, which is loosely based on the Beast of Jersey, was released in UK cinemas.
The film critic for The Observer wrote that ‘the Channel Islands become home to something altogether more eerie’ than the Guernsey-set feature giving it four stars.
Beast entered into the box-office charts this week in 12th place, having taken £166,295 over the weekend.
