Patrick Rice is stepping away after eight years at the helm.
Recruitment of a replacement has begun.
Home Affairs chief secretary Adrian Lewis said it was a planned retirement, which Mr Rice had confirmed more in advance than he needed to – based on contract/notice period – to give the States plenty of time to appoint his successor.
‘Patrick has been in post for eight years, originally as chief of police and then as the island’s first head of law enforcement.
‘During that time he has successfully led the organisation through a period of significant change.’
Mr Rice said it had always been his intention to retire at the end of his contract.
‘I wanted to give the committee plenty of advance notice to help them recruit and appoint a successor,’ he added.
‘The last eight years in Guernsey, and particularly the last six as the head of law enforcement, have been some of the most rewarding of my career. It has been an honour to serve this wonderful community.’
Mr Lewis said the recruitment process involved both Home Affairs and Policy & Resources.
‘An announcement confirming the new head of law enforcement will be made as soon as that process is complete,’ Mr Lewis added.
