DANGEROUS STEVE and the Knights of the Crusade are just some of the entertainers islanders can look forward to seeing at this year’s North Show.

Show visitors are promised ‘high quality entertainment of an outdoor nature’.

In preparation, the Fire & Rescue Service was at Saumarez Park to erect the ‘symbol of the North Show’, a 10ft x 6ft wooden cross.

Committee member Ron Le Cheminant takes pride in the cross and said: ‘There has always been a cross, ever since the show has been open from before the war.’

Erected in a tree to the left of the duck pond, the cross, which lights up, is visible from the arena and will shine from Wednesday morning until the show closes on Thursday evening.

‘It will shine on the arena all the time,’ said Mr Le Cheminant.

Two years ago the symbol of the show went missing and the current cross was made and donated by a carpenter to keep the tradition alive.

Fun begins at 10am today with rides, stalls and family-friendly entertainment from a diverse pool of local talent as well as professional and amateur entertainment from outside the island.

The Battle of Flowers is tomorrow afternoon. The floats will also take part in an illuminated parade in the evening with a firework display following.

Show vice-president Josh Gabriel said: ‘We have over 100 entries for the Battle of Flowers again this year, ranging from decorated wheelbarrows to trailers over 20ft long.’

Competitions will also be held like every other year including for Guernsey cattle, goats and agricultural produce, fur and feather classes, flower arranging, cakes and baking, craft classes and fruit and vegetable competitions.
