The school, which supports children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, also saw three students achieving 10 or more GCSEs or equivalents.

Head teacher Jonathan Furley said all of the pupils had done very well.

‘A total of 38% have got five A* to G/9 to 1 grades including English and maths.

‘We’ve had a couple of students and parents here this morning and it’s nice to see them pleased.’

He said the breadth of the qualifications would give the students many opportunities.

‘Five years ago, students were leaving without any qualifications at all.

‘Now, thanks to the staff and students, they are leaving with a whole range of qualifications and opportunities,’ he said.

Mr Furley added that it was not all about the qualifications, it was also about the life skills that they gained while at the school.

Toby Prigent, 16, achieved 11 GCSEs or equivalent grades. He did not know exactly what he had got, though, because he was waiting to open his results with his mum when he got home.

‘I’m really proud with what I have achieved,’ he said.

‘This school has had a big impact on my life.

‘All the staff are great and there is a great head teacher.’

He will be attending the College of Further Education in September and he hopes to have a career in engineering.
