The company is now listed for strike-off on the Company Registry.

‘The Economic Crime Division are aware of a developing situation with respect to the Sarnia Estate Agency but no criminal investigation has been put in place at this stage,’ a Law Enforcement spokesman said.

‘ECD are recording details of individuals who have been in contact with us for a variety of reasons and we expect to be back in contact with these individuals next week.

‘The ECD are not discouraging individuals from making contact with us and we would be pleased to speak to any member of the public who would seek our advice.

‘Indications are such that the company has been listed for strike-off by the Guernsey Registry. However, at this time the ECD are unaware of any public statements having been made by Sarnia Estate Agency.’

Sarnia Estates deleted its Facebook page shortly after a client went public about being unable to contact them on the eve of moving into a rental property and so was not able to get back their £2,000 deposit. Sarnia posted on its Facebook page on 25 July that it was moving from its High Street office and hoped to be back in business as usual the week after.

Repeated attempts to contact the business have been unsuccessful.

According to the Company Registry, Alex Ford is the only remaining director, having taken on the role in 2009.

He has deleted his Facebook account and attempts to contact him again yesterday were met with a full mailbox on his phone.

Quinten Hubbard, a shareholder through a company he is a director of, said on Thursday that he would give a more detailed update once he knew what was happening. He has since failed to return calls from this newspaper.

Sarnia Estates’ annual validation form is listed as rejected by the Company Registry on 6 February.

It was listed for strike-off on Tuesday.

The company was based at 37, The High Street.

Those five-floor premises are now being marketed for rent with a new lease available immediately.

n ECD can be contacted during normal business hours on 714081.
