The Scottish airline has unveiled new seasonal routes to Jersey and Guernsey from Bournemouth Airport, scheduled from April to October 2019.

As part of their summer schedule, flights to Jersey will operate three times a week, while Guernsey has been limited to just one flight on Saturdays.

Although people wishing to fly this route would have to wait a week before returning, Loganair’s managing director, Jonathan Hinkles, said the routes would make travel more ‘convenient’.

‘Our two new routes to Jersey and Guernsey will make travel to these popular leisure and corporate destinations more convenient for passengers within Bournemouth Airport’s large catchment area,’ he said.

‘The new routes build on the success of our Guernsey operation from Glasgow and Jersey from Norwich this year, which will repeat for summer 2019, along with Edinburgh to Guernsey and Bournemouth to both Jersey and Guernsey.’

Similar to the new route to Bournemouth, passengers wishing to fly from Guernsey to Glasgow are restricted to Saturday flights.

Loganair was awarded Airline of the Year 2018 and has a range of fares which all include 20kg of hold luggage, 6kg of hand luggage, assigned seats, complimentary drink and snack, and child discounts.

The new travel links opening up have been welcomed by some islanders, but the restriction of only being able to fly on Saturdays limits the usability of the route.

Economic Development member Deputy Dawn Tindall welcomed the news.

‘The announcement by Loganair that they will commence a new seasonal service to Guernsey from Bournemouth next year is excellent news,’ she said.

‘It is the second new service announced by Loganair since the commencement of the ‘open skies’ policy in September this year and illustrates their confidence in the market opportunities offered by Guernsey.

‘VisitGuernsey will be working closely with Loganair to support the marketing effort to raise awareness of the new route, and we look forward to welcoming many visitors from the Bournemouth region in the coming season.’

The open skies policy enables airlines to operate without needing an air transport licence or guaranteeing route frequency.
