Traffic and Highway Services have been given the green light by planning to install a raised table at the Route du Longfrie/Route de Lihou junction, subject to approval for Environment & Infrastructure.
It is designed to highlight the presence of the filter-in-turn and reduce the risk of motorists failing to give way at the junction.
A filter was installed at the junction in March 2017 as a trial, although speeds have not reduced and the plans were put forward in response to ongoing speed and road safety concerns in the area.
Colin Bridle, who lives on the corner of the filter, said it was a good idea.
‘People just sail through the filter without realising it’s there, he said.
‘Putting it in hasn’t seemed to reduce people’s speed either.
‘When I am in the road in hedge -cutting season it isn’t fun.
‘Hopefully, it should slow people down, there have been some bad accidents here.’
Margaret Osbourne, who lives on the Route de Lihou, said even more could be done to protect motorists.
‘The problem is that people using the main road don’t even stop, they just carry on as if the filter isn’t even there.
‘It is very difficult for us to get over the filter.
‘I think they should move the 25 mile per hour limit to more of the roads, I see no point in having a 35 mile hour limit here.
‘The whole thing needs looking at, it is a nasty junction.’
One resident who has lived in the area since 1950 said her late husband had pushed for traffic lights to be put in, but the States rejected the idea.
‘That would really be the answer,’ she said.
‘I am worried that people will come along the road like a racetrack and not realise the hump will be there.
‘The filter had made things a bit better, but there has been some horrendous accidents.’
In the planning application Traffic and Highway Services said the raised table solution had been carefully investigated.
