A flying mile is the average speed, over a mile, with a mile run-up.

The record was previously held by actor Idris Elba, who achieved 180.361mph along the beach in 2015.

But at 2pm on Saturday that was broken, with Mr Eisenberg setting a speed on 182.4mph.

He used a specially-made 400hp supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa, built by the Madmax Race Team, to set the record.

‘No practice runs were done, the record was achieved on the first pair of runs, and after the rear tyre started to fall apart,’ a Madmax spokesperson said.

‘On the third run, the motorbike engine blew up, due to prolonged, high rpm wheel spin on the sand, this sprayed Zef and his helmet visor with black engine oil, making him unable to see, at 195mph, approaching the finish line.

Fortunately he was able to stop the bike without incident.

With critical engine damage, he was not able to continue racing and attempt to increase his speeds.

He had been hoping to reach a speed of 200mph over the weekend.

Mr Eisenberg still holds the fastest wheel-powered vehicle (bike or car) at Pendine, at 201.5mph, which is also the fastest motorbike on sand world record.

As time has run out, The Madmax 1200hp Porsche Sand Racer will come back to Pendine on Speed Week 18 and 19 May for an attempt on the all-out flying mile record and speed.
