The section between Richmond Avenue and Le Vauquiedor is for residents, pedestrians and cyclists.

Introduced by Traffic & Highway Services, the nine-month trial has been put in place to assess whether the system works.

Complaints received by THS included use of the roads by large vehicles, as well as cars joining the road at speed as a shortcut to King’s Road from Le Vauquiedor.

One resident, who lives close to the section where the restrictions will apply, said they would prefer it was applied to the whole road to ensure more safety in the area for residents, pets and cyclists.

‘I contacted the Traffic & Highway Services about the trial, because it is quite a big deal around this area, especially to those living here,’ he said.

‘Most people who use the road are careful, but it is quite narrow. Residents especially have to be careful, if drivers and even lorries enter the lane at speed.’

Le Vauquiedor is a 35mph road coming down, so entering the narrow two-way road of Rue a L’Or is potentially very dangerous.

It is hoped by instigating this prohibited street trial, there will be less use of this section of road, resulting in improved road safety for both pedestrians and cyclists.

THS anticipates the reduction in general traffic volumes, and all but essential large vehicle movements will make the route a more pleasant environment.

Steve Oliphant, a resident close to the road, said people would still use the road regardless. ‘I think they have chosen the wrong road really. It should be this whole area. Getting out on the road from here for residents is a nightmare,’ he said.

‘It’s a bacon slicer, you take a look to get out and you slice your nose off.’

Signs will be installed at both ends of the prohibited section of road, identifying who can use the route on Sunday 5 May.
