The ferry company said that the wind will mean the vessel would not be able to dock safely, and so has cancelled its Poole sailings.

Passengers booked to travel to the Channel Islands and Poole are being offered refunds or a transfer to alternative sailings where there is space, including the Commodore Clipper.

A total of 217 passengers were booked to come to Guernsey from Poole. All those affected should be contacted via email and text message to enable them to revise their travel plans.

The sailings affected are the 6:30am departure from Poole, due to arrive in Guernsey at 09:30 and onward to Jersey at 10:00.

A company spokesman said that its engineers and the engine manufacturer are working to get the engine repaired as soon as possible.
