Emergency services attended the scene at the former tourist attraction from late afternoon onwards as nearby residents reported hearing what sounded like cannisters exploding within the site.

Tamba Park until recently was one of Jersey’s top attractions for children and families. In June

it announced it was to reopen before this was reneged on in early July.

The site was set to remain closed indefinitely.

In a statement at about 4pm, the States of Jersey police said: ‘Police and Jersey Fire & Rescue are currently dealing with a large fire at Tamba Park. Residents in the area are asked to close their windows at this time, there is presently no requirement for anyone to leave their properties and we would also ask that drivers avoid

the area immediately around Tamba Park. We’ll post updates shortly.’

In a statement issued at about 4.30pm, the States police said: 'A large fire broke out at Tamba Park earlier, but is now under control and the roads are open.

'Residents are advised to keep their windows closed for a while longer as there is still smoke in the area.'
