Scouts of all ages join in global Jamboree on the Trail
GUERNSEY Scouts have taken part in a ‘Jamboree on the Trail’, which sees Scouts worldwide walk together.
The local Scouts joined in by completing activities in St Peter Port which culminated at the Markets to renew their promise.
The Cubs met at Havelet Bay where they began a scavenger hunt, with the Beavers starting at North Beach, beginning their trail looking for clues among the town houses of Le Pollet.
In true Scouting tradition, Scouts and Young Leaders were found dispersed all over St Peter Port, navigating various routes that had been set for them before meeting the Cubs and Beavers at the Markets.
There followed a short ceremony during which they renewed their promise and were reminded that in their own way by hiking together, they were all going in the same direction ‘towards a better future through Scouting’.
Bailiwick Commissioner Nick Paluch said: ‘It was a perfect day to celebrate Scouting and be in the great outdoors.
‘To have all the island’s Scout groups together is always a special occasion and was made even more poignant this year with so many countries still having restrictions due to the pandemic. We are very fortunate,’ he said.
‘It is important that the Scouts take part in events like this to remember that they are part of not just a large organisation within Guernsey or the Channel Islands but across the world.’
