Two years ago daughter Holly, who was 14 at the time, braved the shave and had her hair completely shorn to raise money for Cancer Research UK and donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust.
Now her mum is getting in on the fundraising act with a tandem skydive, despite not wanting to see the land under her at a distance.
‘Back in my 20s I said I always wanted to do it but I wasn’t able to at the time and I put it on the back-burner,’ said Mrs Muir-Field.
‘I have anxiety about heights and water and I’m a nervous flier. Then when Holly did her head-shave I thought I should do something I’m scared of.’
She said seeing her daughter do something as extreme as cutting off her long curly hair for charity, had encouraged her to do something out of her comfort zone.
‘If you put your mind to something you can do it,’ added Mrs Muir-Field.
‘Holly thinks I’m mad but I think it’s for a good cause, one that will have struggled the last year for funds due to Covid as with many other charities. I want to play my part and help them to continue their valuable research.’
The charity skydive is due to take place on 1 August at L’Eree when the skydiving team come over from Jersey and more than £200 has already been raised.
Holly raised £4,150 when she faced the shaver, which was nearly 1000% more than her £450 target. This time around her mum’s target is £800.
Mrs Muir-Field hoped her parachute jump would build confidence while helping others.
‘It’s for a charity that is close to me as I know many people affected by cancer. This is to support them and help fund the research the charity does to do that,’ she said.
‘I was 50 last year, on 8 August, and I had wanted to do it then. Obviously I couldn’t, so I’m doing it this year. With restrictions still currently in place there’s a chance the date will have to be moved which I’ll be kept updated on but I’m ready.’
