2020/2021. Three children at the inaugural celebration of Liberation Day in 1946 was this year’s cover. The image, which is believed to be of brother and sister John and Elizabeth Taylor posing next to Hazel Carre, was taken on 9 May 1946 – exactly one year after the Channel Islands were liberated from the German Occupation.

Guernsey students aged between five and 18 can take on the challenge.

The winning artwork will be on more than 35,000 copies of the directory, which will be sent to businesses and homes.

2018. After a public competition, Karen Langlois’s photograph of Robert Waters’ Guernsey cows at La Petite Croute Farm in the Castel was chosen.

The winner’s school will also get £500 to go towards sport and art equipment.

Sure is the Guernsey 2023 NatWest International Island Games technology partner and chief executive Justin Bellinger said it would like the 2021/2022 book to reflect a passion for sport.

‘We’re looking forward to seeing the artwork that our local students produce for this competition,’ he said.

‘We ask that the artists depict what they feel represents sport and wellbeing in Guernsey. Whether that is surfing at Vazon, walking along the cliffs or eating local and healthy produce, there is no boundary to creativity. We want all students to remember that the world is their ormer.’

2019/20. A bumblebee featured on the front cover, as Sure highlighted the work of the Pollinator Project.

The artwork must be a drawing or painting. Materials may be oil, watercolour, acrylic pastel, crayon, pencil or ink.

Photography or computer-generated art may not be submitted and entrants are asked to not write on their artwork.

All works submitted must be a minimum of A4 in size and portrait orientation.

A photo of the artwork should be emailed to competitions@sure.com.

2017. A stock image of a non-Guernsey woodland. It was unclear how it was chosen and it led to Sure encouraging islanders to submit their own images the following year.

The entry must include the artist’s name, school and best contact details.

The competition runs until Sunday 11 July. Shortlisted entries will be notified on Wednesday 14 July.

The shortlisted entries will be collected from schools before the end of term and the winning artwork will be photographed professionally to be used as the front cover of the directory.
