Broken glass littered the ground around the property yesterday morning, and multiple markings were spray painted onto boarded up doors around the derelict house. Guernsey Police described the damage as ‘extensive’.

Ricky Stephens, Beaucette Marina manager, said all of the broken lower windows were boarded up on Tuesday after the incident.

He said there was nothing in the building for vandals to take.

‘I guess it was just kids on holiday for half-term. This is what happens when there’s nothing else for kids to do,’ he said.

There is no CCTV in the area, and Mr Stephens was not in the island when the incident happened.

He said the marina and general Fort Doyle area was usually quiet, with no issues of vandalism or crime.

Although the marina has a planning application for works on the old house, Mr Stephens said final details and action is at least a year or two away.

The building was used historically as the lighthouse shore station for the nearby Platte Fougere light.

Bought by the States in 1911, it had previously been rented by the former Housing Department.

It was handed over to States Property Services in 2010, as it was no longer required, and has since been in temporary use as a store and a band practice room before its sale to the marina company.
