Restrictions will apply at Fermain, Petit Bot, L’Eree, Vazon, Cobo, Port Soif and L’Ancresse/Pembroke, so people can enjoy the spaces during the summer months.

Herm’s Shell Beach, Belvoir Bay, Fisherman’s Beach and the area of beach in front of the White House Hotel to the harbour are also closed to dogs.

Dog owners are also being reminded that their animals are not permitted on any part of Lihou Island or the causeway, which form part of the internationally-recognised Ramsar site, a designated nature reserve and a valuable site for feeding and breeding sea birds.

‘Even with these annual restrictions being introduced, there are still lots of places where dog owners can enjoy walking their dog this summer,’ said States principal environment services officer Andy McCutcheon.

‘These restrictions make sure that those who aren’t as comfortable around dogs are able to enjoy the beaches, while dog owners and dogs can enjoy many of our great beaches as well.’

Dog owners are asked to remain mindful of other beach users and wildlife and to ensure their dogs do not interfere with birds.

Owners of guide dogs are exempt from the Control of Dogs Ordinance.

Special arrangements can also be made for dogs registered under the UK-registered assistance dogs scheme, particularly for dogs for the hard of hearing. Contact Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services at aclms@gov.gg for further details.
