The annual event sees riders undertake 30 bicycle rides over about a month to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

This year, despite fundraising becoming more challenging in the current economic climate, organisers focused on a goal to reach £1m. in fundraising cumulatively since the event was launched in 2008.

And with a final push from this year's 100 registered riders, and backing from Specsavers, the ultimate target was reached just before the month end.

In year one of the 30-30, 36 people took to their bikes for an hour a day for 30 consecutive days and raised £44,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice.

Since then, the event has grown significantly.

In 2021 a further £84,000 was raised, lifting the total since 2008 to £892,000.

The challenge for 2022 was to make it a million by raising the £108,000 to get to the milestone.

Ian Brown from Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop, event sponsor and organiser, was overwhelmed to reach the target.

‘Every rider over the years has made an individual effort and contribution – it was the combination of these over all the 15 years that helped us reach this magnificent total.’

Mr Brown was grateful to Specsavers for its extra backing this year and the help it offered to reaching this target.

Specsavers were this year’s main supporters, so the 100 riders wore distinctive green jerseys with branding from the optical giant.

Nick James, director of group services at Specsavers, has taken part in five previous 30 Rides in 30 Days challenges.

‘We are delighted to have had the opportunity to support the annual event and make a significant difference to Les Bourgs Hospice, a charity which is close to many Guernsey and Bailiwick people.’

Plans are already being drawn up for next May's 30 Rides in 30 Days.
