Pride of Guernsey: Lynn and Clive McMinn
LYNN and Clive McMinn have been nominated for the Grandparent/s of the Year award, sponsored by the Channel Islands Co-op.
‘In 2021 we knew our baby was being born with a serious heart condition which needed urgent surgery to give the baby a chance of surviving,’ said nominator Joanne Newton.
‘We had to deliver the baby and he had to have open heart surgery in Southampton.
‘At the time it was Covid so we couldn’t go to Southampton as a family so we had to leave our toddler here with nanny and pap for two months while we were in Southampton. This broke our hearts, but we knew he was in the safest hands.
‘They brought Beau out to see us as soon as his baby brother was born but unfortunately due to Covid and the baby being in intensive care he couldn’t meet his brother, but we got to see him, which was amazing.
‘They cared for our son day and night, which isn’t easy with an energetic pocket rocket, taking him out to play, swimming, football, play dates, parties, nursery etc.
‘They do everything and more for our boys – they dance, sing, play sword fights, games, puzzles, books, gardening, cooking, treasure hunts and are constantly showering the boys with love and companionship.
‘They see them all the time and without their support during that horrific time I don’t know if we’d have made it through.’
