Alderney ferry firm looks to France for its second season
ALDERNEY Ferry Services has confirmed that the company is set to run services to France.
It comes as the company gave an update on how the first season has gone.
After a rocky start, the business took on the 12-seater Causeway Explorer, which started operating in July, with regular ferry links between Alderney and Guernsey.
Since then the business has carried thousands of passengers, as well as dogs, cats and even a terrapin.
‘We have loved every minute and have been working seven days a week from 5am to 9pm ensuring we provide the best possible service for Alderney,’ the business posted.
‘Causeway Explorer is staying in [operation] all year round – except the end of November whilst we all take a well earned two-week family holiday and Causeway Explorer gets some sprucing up.
‘On top of all of that we have been working quietly behind the scenes to get her on the Part One British Ships Registry and we can now confirm we are about to start a route to France.’
Details of the new route are expected to be announced shortly.
The business has been supported financially by the Salty Blonde – a competing ferry company, which operates under a subsidy from the States of Alderney, in purchasing the Causeway Explorer.
Alderney Ferry Services thanked Julie-Anne Uggla from the Blonde Hedgehog for giving the loan to allow the purchase of the Causeway Explorer.
The business has now paid the money back and they thanked everyone who has supported them.
‘This year feels like a huge team of different companies working together to help Alderney, which is amazing and exactly what we needed.’
