The local charity provides training and mentoring for people with learning disabilities.

Karen Blanchford, who led the Guernsey Disability Alliance for seven years, has joined the charity as the general manager on a part-time basis until the new year when her role will become full-time.

Richard Portsmouth has also joined the charity, in a new role as training manager.

Chairman Mark Dunster said the charity was delighted with the appointments.

Ms Blanchford has previously worked closely with Grow during her time with the GDA.

‘I recognise what an important role it plays in developing the potential of their crew,’ she said.

‘This is an exciting time to be joining the Grow team as we formulate plans to enhance the range of occupational and life skills training in the new facilities.’

Mr Portsmouth joins the charity to develop its training operation. He has previously served with the Royal Navy as a survival technician.

Locally, he joined Aurigny with responsibility for training ground staff. More recently, he acted as an employment support officer with the Guernsey Employment Trust.

‘I am looking forward to joining the team to develop enhanced, bespoke training strategies so that we can offer a wider range of occupation opportunities for the crew,’ he said.
