Diane Mitchell joins Advocate Jason Green as the committee’s two non-voting members.

Non-voting members of States committees participate fully in the work of the committee, but do not have a vote.

Originally from Guernsey, Mrs Mitchell trained as a teacher and taught locally before relocating to the UK.

There, she became a headteacher before progressing to become the director of education in both Bournemouth and Portsmouth.

Mrs Mitchell also has experience as an Ofsted inspector.

She said she was delighted to join the committee at a pivotal time.

‘I have been keenly following the committee’s exciting plans for the post-16 campus at Les Ozouets, and I am looking forward to making an active contribution in the finalisation of proposals for the new Education Law,’ she said.

Education, Sport & Culture president Andrea Dudley-Owen said the new member’s knowledge would be invaluable.

‘Diane’s experience as an Ofsted Inspector will bring a new dimension to the committee as we further embed our local inspection framework, which is an intrinsic part of our education strategy,’ she said.
