RG Falla Construction still trading as old firm collapses

THE man behind RG Falla Construction, a new company formed just prior to the collapse of Garenne Group, has made clear that the company is still trading and has secured dozens of local jobs.

The original RG Falla, the former lead company of the Garenne Group, has been placed into voluntary liquidation under its new name, Hurel Ltd, which it changed in early March.

This is not the same company as RG Falla Construction, which was bought by a locally-owned private investment company in March and has taken on much of the old company’s business.

New managing director Brett Green said the changes happened after the Garenne Group took on Interpath Ltd to help with structural re-financing.

‘We started to get concerned earlier on this year when Garenne started to have their troubles... so we negotiated a deal with Garenne to basically buy the contracts, take over all the staff – over 100 jobs – all the assets and plant, and basically take over the lease on this office. And we completed that in early March,’ he said.

‘Most importantly, we took on all the staff with all the longevity. I’ve got one member of staff who will be approaching 50 years later this year and he’s been taken across with all of his longevity and continuity of service.’

Two other companies were established, Falla Small Works Ltd in December and Falla Infrastructure Ltd in January, to manage projects of different sizes.

‘They will all operate as separate companies under the umbrella and I’m just in the process of appointing a small works director.’

The company took on eight contracts. ‘We have taken on a number of the retentions and old projects, but not all of them,’ said Mr Green.

Among these is the development of the new IslandHealth surgery at L’Aumone, which he said was moving ahead, with the doctors set to move into at the end of this month.

It has also hired a design architect, which Mr Green said was unusual.

The liquidation of Hurel Ltd was confirmed in La Gazette Officielle in yesterday’s Guernsey Press, with KPMG and Interpath as joint liquidators, as with the other Garenne Group companies.

Creditors have been invited to submit claims against the company not later than 28 April.
