Rabey’s auction ‘heartbreaking’

RABEYS’ former sales manager said he was broken-hearted yesterday as he oversaw an all-day viewing of hundreds of items now up for auction following the company’s recent collapse.

More than 300 items are being auctioned off online this week. But potential bidders were able to see them in person at the industrial estate at Vale Castle where the company traded before going into liquidation last month.

‘It’s breaking my heart seeing it all go,’ said Tony Jessett.

‘Some of the stuff is quite old, but there are good deals to be done.

‘The vans are usually very popular and will likely be available for a lower price than what they would usually be listed at.’

Lots include 25 vehicles and a range of garage equipment, including forklifts, ramps and axle stands.

About 100 people had turned up within a couple of hours of the viewing being opened.

The auction, which ends on Friday, is being conducted by UK auction house John Pye Auctions via its website.

Rabeys, part of the collapsed Garenne Group of companies, was established in 1976. For more than 40 years, it operated as one of the island’s largest vehicle fleet sales and maintenance businesses.
