Coronation spoon delights celebrity psychic Uri Geller
Uri GELLER has had his mind blown by a Guernsey Spoon.
The world famous psychic and celebrated spoon bender has given pride of place in his Tel Aviv spoon museum to a commemorative coronation spoon made by Guernsey Silversmiths Bruce Russell & Son.
‘Uri Geller is the number one spoon man of the world,’ said Mr Russell.
‘It is a fantastic accomplishment to have this on display in his museum.’
The spoon is an almost exact replica of the one used in the Coronation to hold holy oil, when the monarch was anointed.
Mr Russell made 74 of the solid silver spoons, which are finished in 18 carat gold and pearl and cost £1,365 each, earlier this year, one for each year of the monarch’s life before he became King. The spoon Mr Geller has is number 74.
‘I was going to offer him number 74 before he asked,’ said Mr Russell.
‘It was like he read my mind.’
The original spoon dates from 1349 and was the only piece of original regalia to have survived destruction by Oliver Cromwell.
Mr Geller said the Coronation spoon had particular relevance to him because the oil which it held to anoint King Charles was produced in Israel.
‘It’s amazing that of all the items used in the Coronation, one of the most sacred was nothing other than a lowly spoon,’ said Mr Geller.
‘I was absolutely thrilled to learn Bruce Russell hand crafted such beautiful replicas. He has done an incredible job and I am very excited to be able to display one in my museum for everyone to see.’
Mr Russell said he spoke on the phone to Mr Geller yesterday to talk about the spoon being displayed on antique table donated by Mohammed al-Fayed.
‘Uri has invited me out to Israel to see the spoon in place,’ he said.
‘Uri has promised not to bend the spoon. He said it was too unique.
'He’s blown away with it.’
