Still space to camp for Games

ANYONE still looking for accommodation for the NatWest Island Games could be in luck – provided they have their own tent.

Local campsites are reporting space for those who are content to sleep under canvas.

‘We have a field that we reserve almost exclusively for backpackers which is almost empty for that week,’ said La Bailloterie manager Charlie Stevens.

There are small pitches for one or two people as well as some family-sized ones.

‘Most people want a place where the tent is already available, and at the moment all of our cabins and glamping accommodation is booked.’

Fauxquets Valley are in the same situation as 85% of its space is booked for next week, with the remaining spots only for those with their own tent.

The campsite is hosting a wide variety of nations including Isle of Man, Faroe Islands and Anglesey as well as competitors from Falkland Islands and Gibraltar.

‘I’m really looking forward to having all the different nationalities here,’ said campsite owner Roland Guille.

‘We normally have a wide spread of nationalities but this time is special because everyone’s got a mutual interest with the Games.’

Mr Guille is also looking to put up a big screen at the campsite to stream the various events through the Guernsey 2023 YouTube channel.

Vaugrat Campsite is purely for those with their own tents, and manager Tony Brouard said there was still room for more.

‘We’re not taking any teams so if people want to come, they can come,’ he said.

‘We’ve got space.

‘We’ve always got room – no ferries or aircraft can supply sufficient for us to fill up totally.’
