Town is the place to be on final day of Island Games
TOWN is the place to be, as today marks the final day of the Island Games – dubbed as ‘Fantastic Friday’.
Then tonight's closing ceremony, taking place at Footes Lane, is a much more low-key event than the opening ceremony. It includes the Island Games handover, and an after-event for athletes and volunteers with accreditation passes only.
‘We’re hurtling towards the final day of Guernsey 2023 and we’d like to set some expectations about Friday’s closing ceremony,’ said Island Games communications and events director Amanda Hibbs.
‘The closing ceremony will be much more low-key and brief than the opening ceremony, and is focused on the handover to Orkney 2025.
‘One of the best places to be on Friday is the St Peter Port seafront, where a thrilling day of sport awaits.’
The men’s and women’s half marathons get going from 9am along the seafront, which is followed by the cycling criterium at noon.
The final event is the triathlon team relay which starts at 4pm.
The event’s medal ceremony will be at 5.30pm on the Albert Pier.
The bus terminus will be relocated to North Beach car park until the last daytime service at 8.35pm
St Peter Port seafront will be closed from the Weighbridge roundabout to Le Val des Terres between 5am and 8pm.
Church Hill and Fountain Street will also be closed from 5am, and parking will also be suspended at a number of locations.
At Footes Lane, the men’s football final is held at 3.30pm.
The closing ceremony will begin at 8pm, and an event for athletes will be held from 9pm to 11.30pm.
The road will be closed from 1pm until midnight, and its car parks closed all day.
