And this evening, just a few yards away in Candie Gardens, there will be a picnic and live music to celebrate this special date in Guernsey's history.
1963 Revisited has been organised by Guernsey Arts, in association with Skipton International, but instead of John, Paul, George and Ringo playing, it will be Nat, Matt, Scott and Ewan – Nat Eker-Male and Matt Nichols on guitar and vocals, Scott Guilbert on bass and drummer Ewan Nicolle.
‘Scott and I played in Let It Beatles many moons ago and Nat was in The Day Trippers a few years later,' said Mr Nichols.
Three of the band have been rehearsing regularly for the past couple of months.
‘Nat is now living in the UK so we’ve been going over our parts with him on video call,’ said Mr Nichols said. ‘Sunday was the first time we’ve all been in the same room as a four piece.’
The Beatles played two sets on the night in 1963, with nine songs in each.
‘We are playing for about an hour-and-a-half, so we have filled out our setlist to 32 songs. We wanted to keep to the spirit of the time rather than just knock out the big hits from the later 60s, so the entire set is made up only of songs the Beatles recorded or performed regularly in 1963.
‘It’s a revue of their music rather than a tribute band, so there won’t be any wigs or fake Scouse accents.’
1963 Revisted takes place at Candie Gardens tonight from 5pm to 7pm. Everyone is welcome to bring their own picnic and celebrate.
