Pathway to Caring is a joint initiative between Health & Social Care and Employment & Social Security, with the support of the private care home sector.

Aimed at anyone who is not working, the course will help people looking to enter the type of rewarding work that the care sector offers, to complete a care certificate – an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors – prior to starting work.

This seven-week, part-time course is suitable for people looking for either full or part-time work and starts on Tuesday 9 April. The last four weeks involve practical work in a clinical setting. There is no course fee, and no specific requirements in terms of educational background, but applicants will have to undergo a criminal records check before the course starts.

‘Working within the care sector provides vital support for many people and is rewarding work for those delivering the care,’ said Elaine Burgess, director of care delivery.

‘The Pathway to Caring course is a wonderful opportunity for those looking to enter work within a health or social care setting. If this new course is successful, the aim is to run further courses and provide placements across the whole care sector.’

n Applications should be submitted by Thursday 29 February. More information is available from the Job Centre on 222516.
