Festung Guernsey is organising the self-guided tour of the bunkers, which will start at the 4.7cm anti-tank bunker is next to the bus stop at Pembroke.

This will be followed by the L403 command bunker and the L401 Flak bunker.

Arrows around the bunkers will take visitors to one of Festung Guernsey’s volunteer experts, who will be on hand for more information.

Chairman Paul Bourgaize said that the purpose for the open afternoons was so that the public could see what work was going on and to take a look around what was normally not available to the public eye.

‘The public can expect to see the interior of the bunkers which are not normally open to the public, but also our equipment and optics and the function of the bunkers,’ said Mr Bourgaize.

‘We’re always working on about five or six projects, including at Fort Hommet and we’re waiting on planning applications to open up four more bunkers.’

He said that there were lots of growth around each of its bunkers and continued ongoing maintenance was keeping them busy.

Festung Guernsey only holds a few open days a year and last year’s open day at L’Ancresse drew big crowds.

While entry to the bunkers is free, donations are welcomed to allow Festung Guernsey to continue its work.

The open day will take place between 2pm and 5pm.
