Rescheduled Mind 10k run sees even more sign up

AFTER terrible weather led to the Mind Investec10K run being abandoned in September, even more people were able to sign up for re-run of the event yesterday.

Sunny and chilly conditions were ideal for a run and Mind CEO Jo Cottell was delighted at the turnout.

‘We have 345 running here and about 25 are running remotely,’ she said.

The remote runners were people who had originally signed up to take part in September but who could not make the new date.

One participant was doing the run in a part of Florida that had not been badly affected by the recent hurricane.

As long as the remote runners could prove they had done the distance, a medal would be sent to them, she said.

Glen Gallienne was running with his two daughters, Sophie and Jessica and her boyfriend, Henry Kerill.

‘The Mind 10K is great,’ he said. ‘We tend to do it every year and we’ve been doing it since it started.’

He said they particularly liked the Mind run because of the course.

‘The route is nice and you don’t often get to run along it. And it’s well supported along the course, especially when you get back here.’

Probably the youngest runner in the event was Oscar Le Flem, 11, taking part with dad Andy.

He said that he ran the World Aid Walk earlier this year, having started running long distances about a year ago.

Mr Le Flem usually takes part in marathons and said the aim was for Oscar to join him when he turns 18.

They had never done the Mind 10K before.

‘I’m normally out on a long run in the morning and see people doing this one, so I decided to do it.’

Visually impaired Tom Oswin was running with his wife Rebecca guiding him.

‘We ran the half-marathon last year,’ he said, ‘and did the Headway 5K last week.’

He was hoping to do more guided running through the Guernsey Athletics Club.
