First-time landlady Goreti Mauger hopes to reintroduce classic pub grub alongside a few new Portuguese dishes.

Having taken over the lease in early October she said it had been a stressful but positive couple of months.

‘We have had great feedback from the public, both from old and new customers,’ said Mrs Mauger, who previously worked as a duty manager at the Guernsey Bowl for 17 years.

Having grown up in Madeira, she moved to Guernsey 36 years ago and calls the island her home.

Mrs Mauger and her business partner had always wanted to run a pub so when The Foresters’ Arms became available it seemed like the perfect opportunity. She said she had lived ‘round the corner’ for years and it was her local.

Having taken over straight away without any closures, the pub faced a few challenges during the transition.

‘The first night was a bit of a nightmare. We did not have a working card machine and one of the cellar buoys blew up, which ruined a whole keg of Guinness. In the end it was stressful but we got through it.’

The pub will be closed from 12 January for the rest of the month to refurbish the toilets and will reopen on Friday 31.

The Foresters’ Arms is open seven days a week and runs a happy hour on Wednesdays from 5-7pm and karaoke every Friday and Saturday.
