The TMB is spending more than £120,000 in the form of grants to support groups looking to bring tourists to the island.

The money has been allocated by Economic Development and provides funding for local projects that align with the board’s aims to improve and enhance the visitor experience, and celebrate the Bailiwick’s heritage, culture, food, and sporting communities.

‘We know our Bailiwick is beautiful and full of rich culture and heritage, and it is vital to support those projects which showcase the best it has to offer to visitors,’ said TMB chairwoman Hannah Beacom.

‘We were delighted to receive so many applications for funding this year, and we look forward to seeing how the successful applicants put it to good use to boost the Bailiwick’s tourism sector.’

Two events outside of Guernsey were selected this year, with backing for a strongman competition in Herm that takes place in April and the Beltane Festival in Sark in May

Organiser Jolie Rose said she was thrilled and deeply grateful to receive funding from the TMB.

‘This festival is a celebration of community, creativity, and the beautiful islands we call home,’ she said.

‘This support enables us to bring together artists, musicians, and storytellers, fostering a space where traditions meet contemporary expression.’

This year will be the third incarnation of the festival and the second to receive funding.

The festival is a modern day recreation and celebration of an ancient Iron Age Celtic ritual, and includes a fire procession, and the burning of a wickerman, before a line-up of local and international bands take to the stage.

Ms Rose said she hoped that within a few years, tourists will imagine we have been holding these celebrations on Sark for hundreds of years.

‘This festival not only enriches our local culture but also attracts visitors from Jersey, France, and the UK, who all stop off and experience Guernsey on route, reinforcing Sark and the Channel Islands as a unique cultural destination,’ she said.

‘With this funding, we can provide an immersive experience that connects people with the arts, nature, and each other.’
