Trevor Bourgaize was due to stand down this year, after two years in the post, but has agreed to stand for a further one-year term.
‘I have agreed to do one more year for no other reason than nobody had come forward,’ he said.
‘Hopefully that will give us time to recruit somebody for 2026.’
The conservation organisation holds its annual AGM later this month.
Although it had no new candidates for the president role, there have been two candidates, Elaine Mahy and Felicity Quevatre-Malcic, for the vice-president's position, which had been vacant.
Mr Bourgaize said this was welcome news.
‘Having a vice-president will help free up some time, and share the workload,’ he said.
‘It is timely as I shall be off island several times in 2025.’
Four nominations have also been received for the three positions as an ordinary member of the council.
The candidates are Eric Ferbrache, Elaine Mahy, Robert Roue and Angela Salmon.
La Societe was founded more than 140 years ago to encourage the study of the history, natural history, geography and geology.
It has expanded to cover other areas, like astronomy.
It owns or leases about 50 areas around the island, which it manages, and the team also look after the conservation herd. The organisation puts on a variety of events throughout the year.
The AGM takes place on Monday 24 March at 7.30pm at the Frossard Theatre, Candie Museum.
Tickets, which are free, are available through Eventbrite or by contacting the secretary via email secretary@societe.org.gg or by telephone 725093.
