The site at Mont Cuet has just marked a year at its current location. The move last April came with changed opening times, so this will be the second time the site has been open over the full Easter period.
Waste minimisation and sustainability officer Douglas Button said the build-up of green waste would be cleared while the site was closed today – the site is always shut on Thursdays.
‘It should be all ready on Friday morning for the start of Easter,’ he said.
But he said it was hard to predict how busy it would be.
‘It will all depend whether people have gone away for Easter,’ he said.
‘I would expect it to busy, but you can never tell.’
He noted that longer days and sunshine had led to some strong growing in gardens, which might encourage more people to come down. However, the weather forecast might put people off doing a green clear out, as rain is expected over the weekend.
Mr Button said that a year on from the site move – from the former quarry on the western side of the headland to a custom-built facility beside Mont Cuet – everything was going well.
‘It has been well received,’ he said.
‘It is a lot cleaner.’
He said they now had a year of data on usage, which can be analysed.
‘It was a very new site last Easter, so we can compare it with this year.’
‘Things may change in the future, but currently we are quite happy with how it operates.’
The site is open 10am to 4pm on Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
