Guernsey’s most expensive home can have CCTV cameras
THE new owner of Guernsey’s most expensive home has had planning permission granted for an array of CCTV cameras across the site.

St George, off Rue des Delisles, Castel, was sold for just over £24m. last April.
The project will see eight cameras installed around the house, while a further four will cover the three main accesses to the site.
In the application Antoinette Fooks, from CCD Architects, said the property was a large estate, with the main house, as well as various guest cottages and buildings for staff and management of the estate, recreation and storage.
‘The property was bought by our clients last year and they would like to improve the security by installing CCTV cameras in various areas on the property, including to the main house and the three entrance gates,’ she said.
The planners said the proposed CCTV cameras, associated mounts/poles and equipment such as intercoms would not result in harm to the character and appearance of the local area.
‘The security measures across the estate represent the reasonable aspirations of the property owner and where situated away from the main house or adjacent to the protected roadside wall will not result in unacceptable harm to the setting of the protected building,’ it was noted in the planning report.
‘Those attached to the main house and protected buildings have been carefully positioned and will not result in unacceptable harm to special interest.’
Based on this, the proposal was approved.
The application was one of five that have been submitted since the site was sold.
A separate application to change the roof and windows of the doghouse and Hill Top House, and window and internal changes to the main house has also been approved. Applications for a pergola, changes to the gym and staff accommodation are still being considered by the planners.
