Officers said that at least two vehicles were taken without permission and there was a crash at the harbour which caused significant damage to a black 4x4 vehicle.
A blue Peugeot 206 was taken from Victoria Street, leaving its elderly owner distressed and without transport.
A black Citroen Picasso was also taken from the Whitegates area while its owner was on call overnight for the ambulance service, which officers said would have hindered any ambulance response and potentially have put lives at risk. The Picasso sustained significant damage to its bodywork and lost a wing mirror. It is also thought that it may have collided with fencing.
It is also suspected that another vehicle was entered and items disturbed.
PCs Paul Maurice and Mark Davis are looking for information, including anyone who saw the vehicles being driven between 8pm and 4am. They reminded islanders not to leave the keys in unattended vehicles. Information can be left on 222222 or, anonymously, with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
