Parishioners had expressed concerns about the effects of some of the changes recently proposed to the Island Development Plan.
Inspired by the St Peter’s Community Plan, St Martin’s set up a similar initiative and appealed for ideas from parishioners, receiving more than 400 responses.
An exhibition of the ideas is now on display at the constables’ office.
‘We’ve had the initial ideas, so the point of this is about getting community feedback,’ said community plan chairman Graham Winn.
‘We’ve grouped the ideas into different areas, such as community spaces, possible development opportunities, transport and traffic.’
Most of the concerns raised during initial consultation related to traffic, community spaces and housing.
The aspects of St Martin’s which parishioners said they liked most included the community feel, the quiet lanes and the range of shops and services available in the parish centre.
‘Once we’ve had everyone’s ideas, we’ll draft them into a plan and then go for island-wide feedback,’ said Mr Winn.
‘We’re hoping to get this all done by the end of the year.
‘The ultimate thing is hopefully to improve the community and for it to be adopted as supplementary planning guidance.’
A traffic light system with coloured post-it notes will be used for feedback
Parishioners are invited to look at the proposals and give their feedback in person at the parish office during opening hours until 17 May or at additional sessions held between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on 7, 13 and 14 May, and between 9.30am and midday on 17 May.
The proposals are also available to look at online via links on the parish website and Facebook page, and the organisers are happy for feedback to be posted or emailed to the constables’ office.
