The vast majority of vehicles will depart from Le Vaugrat campsite in St Sampson’s at 2pm tomorrow before picking up some of the classic cars and tractors at L’Ancresse crossroads.
The convoy will then head towards the Bridge and out onto the east coast, where the vehicles will be joined by the floats, which will have been stationed at Longue Hougue.
After reaching Town, the participants will form a static display near the Slaughterhouse.
Cavalcade director Jeff Vidamour said the number of entries for the event was ‘very pleasing,’ adding all of the major preparatory work was now done, with just ‘little bits and pieces’ left to go.
He said the route being used by the vehicles was the same one that was used every five years for each big Liberation Day milestone, and so many of the organisational challenges were now familiar ones.
‘Going through the route with the relevant authorities and making sure the necessary escort vehicles are in place are two of the main challenges,’ he said.
‘Fortunately the cooperation from the Police, Traffic & Highway Services and Civil Protection has been very helpful, and we will make sure that all of the vehicles and pedestrians get round safely and soundly.’
He was delighted at the number of floats set to be involved, including floats from nine of the 10 parishes.
‘What they all look like is going to be a surprise for most people, we won’t know until the day itself, but I know a lot of thought has gone into them.
‘We don’t ask for the number of people who will be with each float, so the numbers with each one will vary.’
He requested that other road users avoided the cavalcade route on the day, so as to avoid delays and increased logistical challenges.
‘It’s going to take a long time to get all of the vehicles round, so we politely ask the general public to please bear with us and stay clear of the route while the cavalcade is ongoing.’
