And while some ran, some jogged and some walked, all were able to hold their heads high at the finish line.

Organiser Dani Barnett led a minute’s silence before the race began.

She said the race was raising almost £15,000 this year.

‘That would see us hit £100,000 since we stepped in to take over from the main UK charity four years ago,’ she said.

‘Every penny goes to Cancer Guernsey and directly to Southampton for vital research.’

This year’s Guernsey event took place at a new venue, Guernsey Rovers Football Club.

Participants had the choice between a 3km and 5km course, which took them along the Port Soif Nature Trail and Guernsey Rovers football field.

For the first time, the normal pink shirts were left behind in favour of blue ones, highlighting the ongoing battle against prostate cancer.

The event was sponsored by Bright Electrical. Mrs Barnett thanked them and Rovers AC and the volunteers who enabled the event to take place.
