Each of the 82 candidates is being offered the chance to discuss their goals if elected and to be grilled on their manifestos for the Guernsey Press’ audience.

Sitting deputy Neil Inder was the first to take a seat yesterday morning.

‘I think the Guernsey Press has done a great job doing this, we should be grateful for the effort they’re putting into it,’ he said.

‘Engaging with democracy is important for the community and the press has a role in that. I’m genuinely grateful.

‘For someone who’s not normally nervous, I was very nervous.

‘I didn’t expect it to be easy, but it was okay. We’ll see how well it worked in June.’

The podcasts and videos will be about 20 minutes in length and posted on the Guernsey Press Politics Podcast feed, Guernsey Press YouTube channel and at www.guernseypress.com.

The newspaper will also publish at least one election supplement, where candidates have answered a number of written questions set by us, with the paper ahead of the election.
