The walk was established in 2001 by a group of local women undergoing breast cancer treatment, and has taken place every other year since then.
It has seen an average of 1,500 participants take part each time.
Pink Ladies hopes to mark the 10th anniversary of the walk on Saturday 28 June with a turnout of 2,000 walkers, either completing the full 13-mile route from Grandes Rocques or three miles from Bordeaux.
‘Seeing the ribbon of pink-clad walkers along the coast is an awe-inspiring sight,’ said Fran Torode, who has taken part in every walk, with medals to prove it.
‘A couple of my best memories include achieving my fastest time in the pouring rain – I was soaked to the skin – and walking alongside an actual horse in a pink tutu. It truly is a fabulous occasion.’
All funds raised during the Sunset Walk will directly benefit breast cancer awareness initiatives in the local community and continue to support those affected through practical, wellbeing and financial help.
Taking part for the first time along with more than 20 of her friends and family is Gemma Ainger, who was diagnosed with stage-three breast cancer last year.
‘The hardest part of all that’s happened to me is moving on from the fact that if I’d been paying attention to my body, its highly likely I would have caught my breast cancer earlier,’ she said.
‘If it wasn’t for my amazing support network of family and friends, my breast cancer journey would be so much harder. I’ll be walking the 10th Sunset Walk, a year after I discovered a lump, with so many of my biggest supporters and I can’t wait, it’s going to be very emotional.’
The Pink Ladies group has been inspired to introduce a new area of focus for their work this year – encouraging islanders to take a proactive role in their breast health.
‘I am grateful to continue the work of the original committee and look forward to supporting more people across the Bailiwick through their breast cancer journey,’ said chairwoman Naomi Leach.
At the end of the walk, the traditional Big Pink Party will take place in Market Square with live music from The Big Band Collective until 11pm.
It will also be the Harbour Carnival that evening, with fireworks at 10pm.
