The school, which has more than 120 pupils aged 11 to 19 with additional learning needs, was described by pupils and their parents as a welcoming and friendly place, with pupils safe, happy and excited to attend school.
It was graded ‘excellent’ for its personal development and welfare and sixth form provision, and ‘good’ for quality of education, behaviour and attitudes and leadership and management.
‘It’s huge for the whole school community. Sometimes some people get missed off, but this is due to everyone, right from the secretarial team, the premises team and the teaching staff, and also the learning support assistants who are integral meeting the needs of the students,’ said headteacher Lee Collier.
‘We have a diverse range of students here and we’ve worked really hard and consistently looked at behaviour and attitudes for welfare, and mental health and wellbeing has been a real focus as well.
‘Personal development is key and that was graded excellent within the Ofsted report.’
The report found that school leaders had a secure knowledge of the school’s strengths and weaknesses and regularly checked the effectiveness of the school’s actions to identify and plan further improvements.
Where appropriate, the school works with the education office to implement this work.
‘This is a fantastic achievement for Lee, her staff and the Le Murier community, and a clear endorsement of the school’s vision and values in action,’ said director of education Nick Hynes.
‘The inspection highlights the positive, inclusive and ambitious environment the staff have created.
‘We’re proud of the school’s ongoing commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.’
Looking forward, the school is encouraged to support staff to develop subject expertise in areas where subject leadership is currently under development, so that the curriculum content can be taught across the different pathways effectively.
The Ofsted inspectors also commented that attendance is improving, with exceptional support in place via bespoke timetables for the pupils who are reintegrating, enabling their successful return to full-time education.
