The project, funded by developers Infinity Group, has seen the car park undergo a complete overhaul, with the aim of improving safety and traffic flow.
Construction director Andy Stuart confirmed that the work, costing close to £1m., was paid for by the company as a condition of its planning permissions for two nearby housing sites.
‘This has all been at our cost, and none of this has come out of the public purse,’ he said.
The car park has been entirely reconfigured with new drainage, landscaping, and an updated layout.
The new design includes an increase in dedicated motorcycle and sheltered bicycle parking spaces, with all services for the new housing developments being laid at the same time to minimise future disruption.
While the car park will be fully operational from today, a final top coat of tarmac and line marking will be completed in a final, brief phase, likely around Easter 2027.
This phased approach was adopted to keep the car park open as much as possible, with full closure only occurring during the summer holidays.
Mr Stuart noted that the reconfiguration has already led to a significant improvement in traffic flow, particularly with a new turning circle that will help with congestion.
New street lights and a proper crossing point have also been installed to enhance safety for all users. The general public response has been largely positive, with local businesses and residents welcoming the new, upgraded facility.
