Steve Byrne from the Association of Guernsey Charities, also manager of the GSPCA, said that winds were forecasted to reach nearly 50mph, with heavy rain also expected throughout Sunday.

He said the postponement of the event, which was due to be the last Seafront Sunday of the year, had been a difficult decision, but they had to think of the safety for all involved.

‘We cannot believe the weather is not on our side for the first-ever charities Seafront Sunday, which we had planned for this weekend,’ he said.

‘We are now trying to communicate the message to all that were supporting us on what was set to be an outstanding day celebrating our community and all the great work that goes on.’

Dozens of local charities had been expected to take part in the event, with stalls out along the closed seafront in St Peter Port.

It had also been planned that all the dolphins from the summer’s parade would go on display, ahead of next Wednesday’s auction to raise money for the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey.

But now the statues will go to the Peninsula instead.

‘We are looking at what options there are for future AGC events and already have the charity sector conference on Saturday 18 October,’ Mr Bryne said.

‘We are incredibly grateful for your support and understanding, and we remain committed to celebrating and supporting Guernsey’s charitable sector in every way we can.’

Stallholders who had already paid a pitch fee for the event can email accounts@gspca.org.gg to either request a refund, donate the fee to local charities or roll over the fee to the 2026 rescheduled event.
