Mrs Aldwell, who has also previously been a constable in Torteval, will be taking on a project manager role.

‘There is so much the parish wants to do, everything from floral projects, refurbishment of water pumps and benches to they way the handle waste,’ she said.

‘All that takes co-ordination and most of the douzeniers work full time.’

She added that from her time in Torteval she had a good knowledge of how the parochial system works.

‘I am delighted to be able to help and I’m really looking forward to getting things done in this wonderful parish.’

The douzaine is holding elections in November, with applications required by the middle of October.

Mrs Aldwell encouraged residents of St Peter Port to think about taking up a role.

‘All the parishes will be requiring quality candidates to come forward and serve. It is a fascinating role, especially in St Peter Port,’ she said.

‘They have a great team, but they do need new members to join. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a really enthusiastic, upbeat team.’
