Steven Beausire, 38, admitted a total of six offences.

The court was told how he had extensive previous convictions including matters of dishonesty, violence, and three for possessing bladed articles in a public place.

These were his first convictions for drug trafficking though he does have three local matters on his record, and a UK caution for possessing controlled substances.

Beausire pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child by penetration, which attracted a prison sentence of four years and eight months.

Sexually touching the same minor was met with a penalty of one year and four months concurrent. He was also made subject to notification requirements for a period of 10 years.

The four drug supply charges involved MDMA – a class A drug commonly known as Ecstasy – cannabis, buprenorphine and gabapentin. A sentence of three years and four months was meted for the MDMA matter, with the remaining penalties lesser and concurrent. The sexual offending and drug penalties will be consecutive from 7 May last year, since when Beausire has been in custody.

Following the sentencing, Guernsey Police acknowledged the people involved with the lengthy investigation.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Ian Tanner said the sentence reflected the serious and abhorrent nature of the offences committed by this individual.

‘Crimes of this nature cause deep and lasting harm, not only to the direct victims, but also to their families and the wider public,’ he said.

‘We commend the bravery of the victim and the resilience they have shown throughout this process.

‘I would also like to acknowledge the dedication of the investigative teams and our partner agencies who worked tirelessly to bring this offender to justice. Our priority remains the protection of children and the disruption of those who seek to harm them or profit from illegal activity.

‘We encourage anyone with concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child to contact police or support services immediately. We will continue to pursue those who commit these offences and ensure they are held accountable for their actions.’
