This department comes under the Corporate Services area of the Policy & Resources committee and oversees the management of the States’ central property portfolio.
It has an annual budget of more than £32m. and so represents a major area of public expenditure.
In announcing the hearing, the SMC said it considered this to be an appropriate time to look at the governance, oversight and value for money associated with the unit.
SMC president Andy Sloan will chair the hearing, with members Deputies Liam McKenna and Haley Camp on the panel, joined by non-States members Mark Le Page and Charisma Lyall.
‘This is the first public hearing to be held by the new committee, and we’ve chosen to begin with an area of real significance,’ said Deputy Sloan.
‘Property Services is central to how government operates, both in terms of cost and public impact.
‘At a time when scrutiny of public spending and performance is more important than ever, this hearing provides an opportunity to shine a light on how effectively the States manages one of its largest operational functions.’
The hearing takes place at the Castel Douzaine room on Tuesday 18 November between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
Members of the public may attend but only as observers and no questions or comments may be made during the hearing.
It will also be streamed live on YouTube.
