Now celebrating its sixth year, the annual event sees the island’s two guernsey manufacturers, Guernsey Woollens and Le Tricoteur, come together to raise vital funds for Les Bourgs Hospice. This year the event has a new venue, with a move to Market Square.

‘We have followed the tourist information office,’ said Guernsey Woollens manager Paul Eldridge.

‘It’s a move from the old venue on the seafront to hopefully somewhere more sheltered, with a good inside space for the stalls. The weather has been horrific the last couple of years, so fingers crossed for Thursday. Everyone has always been so good at supporting the event and it would be great to see as many people as possible to join us.’

Islanders are invited to come and have a photo taken, with prizes for the ‘saltiest sea dog’, generations, largest group, best photo and best accessory.

‘Salty sea dog is always the most competitive,’ said Mr Eldridge. ‘And Butterfield always win the largest group, it would be great to see someone try and take them on.’

And new this year there is also a prize for the best illustration or painting which includes a guernsey.

‘Le Tricoteur have been behind this new competition,’ said Mr Eldridge.

‘The hardest thing about putting on the day is the judging, so this is one I’m happy to leave to them. Please don your guernsey and donate to the Les Bourgs Hospice, let’s raise as much as possible. It’s easy to grab lunch while you’re with us having your photo taken, we’ll have bean jar and veggie bean jar, as well as cakes.’

Rocquettes Cider, the Channel Islands Liquor Company, and Guernsey Seaweed are among the companies that have donated prizes for the winners. The photo competition runs from 10am to 4pm.
